What’s the Difference Between Cosmetic & Reconstructive Surgery?

Cosmetic surgery reshapes part of the body to improve how it looks. Most health insurance companies do not cover cosmetic surgery because it’s elective (you choose to have it but do not medically need it).

Reconstructive surgery corrects problems that affect the function and appearance of a body part. It’s typically covered by most health insurance policies. You may have reconstructive surgery to treat:

  • Congenital defects or developmental abnormalities – Deformities present at birth
  • Traumatic injury, infection, tumors, or diseases – Conditions that may cause a body part to look or work abnormally

How Often Should I Get Botox Injections?

The effects of Botox last about three to four months. When it wears off, you’ll notice more muscle movement and the reappearance of wrinkles. Talk to your doctor about how often you should receive treatment. Your results may last longer if you have repeated injections.

Appointment Availability

For your convenience and peace of mind, we offer same- and next-day appointments, as well as telemedicine virtual visits for established patients.

What to Expect at Your Consultation

Your doctor will help you feel comfortable, answer your questions, and listen to your concerns. Expect to receive a physical examination and to talk about your medical history and goals for treatment.

If You Have Surgery

Ask your care team:

  • What to expect before, during, and after surgery
  • How to prepare for your procedure
  • How long your recovery will take
  • How to take care of yourself at home
  • Medication instructions
  • Diet instructions

Do not smoke. Smoking or exposure to secondhand smoke makes it harder for your body to heal and may increase the risk of complications. Talk to your doctor if you need help to quit.

Your surgeon will work closely with other members of your Acclaim Physician Group care team and provide referrals when needed, so you get the best possible care.
