Surgery

Find expert surgical care from the board-certified surgeons at Acclaim Multi-Specialty Group.

Preparing for Surgery

Before your procedure, you’ll have a consultation with your surgeon and care team. You’ll learn:

  • How to prepare for your surgery
  • What type of anesthesia (pain control) you’ll receive
  • How the surgery is performed
  • What to expect if you’ll be staying overnight in the hospital
  • How to take care of yourself at home
  • What follow-up care you may need
  • How long your recovery may take and when you can resume your normal activities

If you have a loved one who serves as your caregiver or will help you during your recovery, he or she is welcome to attend the consultation.

Preventive, Presurgical Care

Depending on your procedure, you may need to:

  • Follow diet and medication instructions
  • Have lab tests or imaging scans
  • Prepare your bowels if you have major abdominal surgery
  • Lower your blood pressure if you have hypertension (high blood pressure)
  • Lose weight if you’re overweight
  • Manage other health conditions you may have, such as diabetes and lung health issues like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) or asthma
  • Quit smoking
  • Take anticoagulants (blood thinners)

Day of Surgery

Trust your surgical care team to prioritize your safety and well-being, and work together to ensure your best possible outcome.

What Should I Bring to My Surgery?

On the day of surgery, bring a photo ID (such as a driver’s license), your insurance information, and a list of your current medications. Wear large, comfortable clothing.

Your Care Team

You’ll meet a lot of people the morning of surgery. Your team may include:

  • Nurse who checks you in
  • Nurse practitioner or physician assistant
  • Anesthesiologist
  • Surgeon
  • Surgical attendings and residents who assist your doctor in the operating room (OR)

Surgical Specialties

Acclaim Multi-Specialty Group surgeons specialize in:

Robot-Assisted Surgery

For certain procedures, your surgeon may use robotic technology and minimally invasive techniques. Robot-assisted surgery uses a computer system and small tools to deliver the most precise care. You’ll experience:

  • Faster recovery time and a shorter hospital stay
  • Less blood loss, pain, or scarring
  • Less risk of infection

After Your Surgery

If you had inpatient surgery, you’ll need to stay in the hospital overnight to recover. If your procedure took place at an outpatient surgery clinic, you can go home the same day. When you’re discharged (able to leave the facility), you’ll receive instructions on how to care for yourself at home.

Follow-Up Care

Attend follow-up appointments with a member of your care team. Your discharge paperwork will include the date and time of your first postoperative appointment.

Your doctor may recommend health services to help you recover. You may benefit from:

MyChart Online Appointments

Existing patients can request virtual appointments through the MyChart patient portal. This means you’ll get to talk to your doctor by video from the comfort of home.
